Why You Need To Use CamelCase in Naming

Flublok

FLUBLOK

FluBlok

Which of the above is the best formatting for a flu vaccine name?

Sanofi went with Flublok. I think that can read as “Flub-lok” and sound like you have locked in a deliberate flub (ironic, eh?).

A far better choice would have been using CamelCase: FluBlok. There would be no possible confusion.

CamelCase is the intentional use of capital letters to signify a break in a name. That break identifies the separate segments of the name and ensures proper communication.

Yes, to some, CamelCase (or internal capitalization or Bicapitalization) is a relic of the 70’s tech scene (e.g., CompuServ, VisiCalc, WordPerfect). But it is still in use by some of the world’s most powerful brands (e.g., iPhone, PayPal, YouTube). Why? Simply because it works. When you use CamelCase, you ensure proper communication of the brand intent.

Don’t flub this one!
